Just joining a few dots:
- Today's NMA article on the DART report from Ipsos MORI, showing that over half of digital subscribers have never pressed the red button and that use is declining
- The success of mobile iTV as in the almost incredible Finnish Pop Idol (previous post)
- Channel4's decision to focus on mobile rather than red button for interactive programming
I'm not sure of whether the DART figures have to be taken too seriously. 50% use is actually pretty good for a 'new channel'. From personal experience, I have particularly enjoyed Sky and the BBC's interactive programming, althought those services are more about selecting the video stream you want to watch than real interaction.
I'm more sure about the idea of the mobile as the best 'remote control' for interactive TV. It's more personal (no fighting over it), with you also when you are not sitting in front of your TV and good for user-generated content.
