The news is that the FA have sold most of the football premiership live packages to Sky. Sky couldn't grab them all just because the European commission wouldn't have allowed it.
The real news is that the rights were not split by media channel, but rather by whether they were live or delayed. I.e. the highest bidder gets to exploit the rights across TV, web and mobile.
It would seem like a victory for common sense. A live game is a live game, whether I watch it at the pub or on my phone. It assigns a value to the content rather than the way it is delivered.
It might however slow down innovation. Despite a few cracks starting to show, TV is still where Sky will make their money. Do they have a sufficient incentive to make the other channels work? Like it or not, reality TV was not created by an established broadcaster. Also, Flickr didn't come from Kodak nor Amazon from Barnes&Noble.
